One of the sweetest little girls on earth just celebrated her 5th birthday yesterday! The party was at Monkey Joe's. She and her friends had a blast running and jumping. Of all the pictures that Johnny took, this picture just melts my heart. All of her sweetness and love of life is oozing out of that precious face!
I am truly blessed to have her in my life.
I am as ready as I can be for my first class today. I already love this professor because he posted the syllabus, all the articles that are required reading for the entire semester and all the power points that will be used in class! Yay for being able to get organized a week before classes even start!! (It's the little things in life that I find most exciting).
I have four classes this semester. The class today is my Social Studies Methods course. Basically, I will be learning how to teach Social Studies. Tomorrow I will begin my English/Language Arts methods course. That class will meet in an elementary school and I will get to work with a 2nd grade student one-on-one for part of my class time. I am super excited about that as well - assuming we don't start that part tomorrow. I told Johnny that I really hope that they plan to teach me a few things before they turn me loose with a actual student. ELA is the subject area that makes me the most nervous. I am looking forward to learning how to teach a child to read - without scarring them, that is...
Then the highlight of the semester for me will be Wednesday and Thursdays. Half a day on Wednesday and all day on Thursday, I will be working at my introductory internship. Translation: I will be working with a coaching teacher (she teaches 5th grade SS and ELA) during that time. I am totally nervous, but also extremely pumped about this. This Wednesday I will go to an orientation on campus with all the other Junior spring students to learn what we will be doing during that internship. Can't wait!!!
So this week is a good week. I feel all too sure that it will only be a matter of time before I am stressing and complaining about the work load, but I hope not. At this point in the game, I am down to the brass tacks. A year from now, I will be preparing for student teaching. The knot that forms in my stomach as I type those words is evidence that I am taking this process seriously. So....let the countdown begin!
